Middle Years (Grades 3 & 4)

In the middle school there is a focus on building an effective, supportive learning environment.
We aim to ‘provide a happy, safe and caring environment where all students feel valued and are encouraged to be actively involved in learning.’
Teachers in the middle school develop personal learning targets for all students. They plan their programs with the understanding that their lessons and delivery will reflect the teaching and learning styles of the students in their classroom. This ensures planning caters for the individual needs of all students. Curriculum is based on the Bairnsdale West Core Knowledge in the areas of Reading, Writing, Word Study, Speaking and Listening and Numeracy.
Teachers build on the capabilities of students established in the Junior School through reinforcement and extension of the Humanities and Health curriculums, along with ‘Qualities as Learners’ and the Respectful Relationships program.
Student’s understandings of Relationships and Sexual Education is expanded upon from the base knowledge taught in the junior years.
